Efficacy of a tourniquet

Should you be so fortunate as to be bitten at the far ends of an extremity, a tourniquet has proven useless in preventing the spread of KCAP throughout your body. Only quick amputation above the bite area has proven to save a bite victim from KCAP. Although the lucky amputee later has a very good chance of dying from blood loss, infection and shock, amputation has so far been the only proven method of saving someone bit on an extremity. Usually someone bitten in the hand or foot can be saved by judicious amputation at the nearest joint above the bite, if the amputation is done within seconds after being bitten.
