Even more thoughts on blogging and writing fiction

December 14, 2011

“Writing, to me, is simply thinking through my fingers.”

Isaac Asimov

So I have been working on this blog for a couple of months now. A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, one of my counselors suggested writing as therapy for my PTSD. I have always found writing therapeutic, to some degree and enjoy the artistic expression. I hope that by sharing some of my thoughts and some of my fiction that others may enjoy the reading.

I have been doing some research and web surfing (hey have to get my money’s worth out of this expensive broad band cable internet!) on blogging. I kinda jumped into my blog blind with no real goal or idea of what I was going to do with it.

Typical man right? Screw the instructions! I’ll just start doing it and figure it out as I go along!

My wife had been suggesting for a while that I start a blog and I finally did. Reading and surfing the web about blogging I have come across some interesting tid bits and suggestions.

  1. Timeliness – apparently rather than randomly post whenever the fancy strikes me, I should post regularly, like on the third Thursday of every month or only on days ending in Y, etc.
  2. Do not blog your fiction – this was something I was surprised to read, and I have mixed thoughts on blogging my fiction. One of my goals here is to blog my fiction more for the feedback and critique it should offer me than any real hope of getting published or actually writing a novel.

There were other ideas like formatting and length of blogs, but I already mentioned some of those. I know that I am long winded and I could post several long-ass posts.

So it’s not like I have a lot of readers or followers yet, but I would love to hear what others think. Should I continue to post my zombie (and other fiction some day) or should I stop as someone suggested?

If you are interested do a search on blogging and read why several “pros” suggest not blogging your fiction.

  1. Keep going, it will refine your writing. As a matter of fact I’d love to have you look at my two fiction posts and see some of your comments!

  2. my wife definitely loves your site and she wanted me to come and tell you just how much she enjoys it.
